Kathryn Hurd is an investigative reporter and freelance writer from San Francisco, California.

Her work has appeared in The Los Angeles Times, ProPublica, PBS Frontline, and The San Francisco Examiner. 

In 2022, she received a George Polk Award and an Edward R. Murrow Award for her participation in PBS Frontline documentary American Insurrection. The film was also nominated for a Peabody Award and and a News & Documentary Emmy Award. 

For the past three years, she's been reporting on California's child welfare system at UC Berkeley's
Investigative Reporting Program.

In 2021, Kathryn received her master's degree from Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism.
